Antonio Alcalá González se especializa en literaturas gótica y de horror. Es miembro del consejo editorial de la serie Palgrave Gothic, así como de las revistas académicas Entorno e International Journal of Literature and Arts. Es fundador y organizador del Coloquio Internacional de Literatura Gótica y miembro de la International Gothic Association (IGA). Ha publicado capítulos de libro con las editoriales EUP, Palgrave, Routledge y Wiley-Blackwell. Fue coeditor de los volumenes especiales sobre Nautical Gothic del journal Gothic Studies y sobre el legado de la obra de H.P. Lovecraft en el journal Aeternum, así como de los libros Doubles and Hybrids in Latin American Gothic y Lovecraft in the Twenty First Century: Dead, but Still Dreaming, ambos publicados por Routledge.
